This time next week, I’ll be home free. No more exams, study, or any of the nastiness for the next three weeks.

I have no sympathy for those about to go back to school tomorrow. Sucks to be you

Sadly, it’s not all fun and games. The vast majority of my friends are already on holidays (or will be in the next couple of days), and here I am, slaving over powerpoint presentations and listening to lecture audio, which seems to have been recorded at the “most horrible quality/more appalling than ah-paul-ling” setting… =/

Along with every exam period comes procrastination, and this particular exam period. I’ve done all I can to avoid studying over the weekend, but I managed to look at some Web Management slides. I’m so sorry, fellow procrastinators

Anyway, couple of semi-important things – I’m poor. This has come from me buying lots of things (if it’s important, I’d show you).

I’ve also bought my first song off the iTunes Music Store (iTMS) in a long time, The Ting Ting’s That’s Not My Name. It’s quite catchy, actually. The reason I bought it was because apparently, it’s a heavily played song at the start of Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) sessions.

Long story short, there’s still a lot of study to be done and not a lot of time for it to be done in.

Unfortunately, finding motivation to study is difficult, to say the least. There’s always something on the internet more interesting that studying, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, or anything else. Sure, I could just turn off these distractions, but then studying would become more of a chore – and the aim is to make studying something enjoyable.

However, it’s hard to enjoy something when you know you’re not going to fare excellently, either. While the KXT101 exam will be all about pedantics (and semantics), I know that I’ll get caught up, trip up, and fall. Hard.

I suppose it doesn’t help that some of the lecture audio is either missing, or of horrendous quality. I was listening to a lecture today where there was this constant hissing/static in the background – it was so annoying it made what the lecturer was trying to say unbearably difficult to understand. I had to stop it half way through – otherwise, my ears would have started bleeding.

In any case, the countdown begins – not only to WWDC 2009 (3am local time on the Tuesday 9th June for anyone interested), but also to the end of the exam period – my last exam is on the 20th, after which I”m home free for two and a half weeks. ^_^

I look forward to the holidays. Unbelievably so.

It’s about time we had a post about the internet.

After all, the internet is serious business (eneyclopedia dramatica, and therefore Not Safe For Work).

To further illustrate how serious the internet actually is, I found this lolcat for you to enjoy:

Your parents aren’t kidding when they tell you to be careful on the internet – don’t chat to people you don’t know, don’t give out any personal details to sites you don’t trust, etc etc. I’m sure you’ve all heard it before.

Unfortunately, sites like Omegle are too funny to give up. Omegle is a site for you to chat to random strangers about anything from your day to the last game you played, with no real obligations to them other than to chat. It’s completely anonymous, but there’s nothing stopping you from giving out personal details (don’t. It’s not recommended).

Please note that I use Omegle purely for the lulz – for the “laffs”, if you will. It’s more than hilarious trying to convince people that “you’re from the internet”, playing the numbers game (getting people to count with you – either with prime numbers, or if you’re really daring, mersenne primes), or just seeing how fast you can get the other party to disconnect. I’ve also found that convinving people you wrote the lyrics to Rick Astley’s  “Never Gonna Give You Up” smash hit is pretty funny, as well as TYPING IN ALL CAPS.

Also, asking (reasonably) complicated maths questions like “What part of ƒ’(x)=kƒ(x) do you not understand?!” as an opening statement also confuses people to no end, usually resulting in hilarity (for me, not for them).

Overall, Omegle can be hilarious. So hilarious, in fact, that I’ve started a Tumblr blog that will contain all the hilarious Omegle conversations I’ve had. Be safe on the internet, peoeple. I’m being serious about this – there’s nothing funny about it. Do NOT, whatever you do, give out personal details like where you live, your real name, or your phone number – anything that can be associated to you. Even your real email address – make one up.

I’m serious. It’s not worth it. DON’T DO IT!

Don’t get too drunk, though – then again, you’ve got a full day to sober up, so go for it, I say!!

Heh, anyways… 2008 has been a great first year for freshbytes. I don’t think I could be any happier with how we have gone this year. I’ll release some results of reader count, number of hits and so on in the new year if you’re interested, but really, I couldn’t be happier with how my very first website has gone. Sure, more hits would be nice, but we’re just talking about Tasmania here, you know?

So, drink, have a good one, but most of all, be safe, and well see you in 2009.

Oh wait. It is 2009. I suppose that’s what you get for blogging on an iPhone…
